JOB ALERT: Iconic mountainside camp seeks new caretakers in Colorado

Pikes Peak’s Barr Camp is looking for a caretaker team of two individuals to manage, operate, and live at the famous cabin found on the side of America’s Mountain outside of Colorado Springs.

The position is full time and has a minimum commitment of one year. Applicants must be dedicated to the well-being of the camp and guests. The position’s responsibilities include constant customer service and support, camp maintenance, cooking, cleaning, systems management, logistics, and interagency support. Applicants should also be physically fit, and able to hike and live at an elevation of 10,000 feet above sea level. Compensation includes room and board, a monthly pay-rate, and a health insurance allotment.

Pay is $2,500 to $3,300 per month, per person depending on qualifications and experience. Four weeks of vacation are included annually. One of the unique aspects of this job includes cooking the well-known spaghetti dinners and Pikes Peak Pancakes for overnight guests.

Barr Camp is a non-profit organization that consists of two cabins, three lean-to shelters, and a composting toilet facility at 10,200 feet on the east side of Pikes Peak on the Barr Trail. The camp provides a stopping point for those hike up Pikes Peak on Barr Trail, and a stay there is like camping with some added luxuries. An overnight stay at Barr Camp can include breakfast and dinner. Snacks, hot drinks, and merchandise are available for purchase.
