The largest campground in Rocky Mountain National Park is set to be closed through the summer season and into fall thanks to construction delays.

A construction project is currently underway at Moraine Park Campground, which is a very popular spot for camping, with goals of the project being to improve water, wastewater, and electrical distribution systems related to the campground, Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, and Rocky Mountain National Park’s Headquarters along with many other critical park facilities.

The improvements related to the electrical distribution system involve moving electric power lines underground, which will better protect against the risk of wildfires and prevent damage from storms. Other improvements involve moving campsites out of areas that are prone to flooding, as well as improving drainage in order to prevent campsite erosion. Moraine Park Campground is one of the most popular campgrounds in the state, featuring more than 200 campsites located near the Estes Park Bear Lake Road entrance.
