Stunning photos capture ‘fiery aurora’ above Colorado mountain towns

The aurora borealis was once again visible above Colorado on Monday night, especially by those capturing the celestial spectacle with a long-exposure photograph.

A number of stunning photographs have since been published of the event, including some over Summit County’s Keystone Resort.

A Keystone team member named Trent Junion captured the scene, showing a contrast between lit ski lift equipment in the foreground and a sky filled with reds and greens in the backdrop.

Check those photos out below:

Well-known Colorado photographer Lars Leber also got some photographs of the aurora that are worth sharing, with his images capturing the Northern Lights over Salida:

Photographer Chelsea Leigh Stockton also captured some great photos over Estes Park:

According to the National Weather Service Space Prediction Center, plenty of solar activity is expected in upcoming days. This may bring more chances to spot the aurora over Colorado. Their ‘viewing conditions’ maps can be found here, and remember, while Colorado might not be in the official viewing zone, many times the Northern Lights can still be seen in the Centennial State when places like Wyoming and South Dakota are in that zone. Heading to a place that’s free of light pollution is key, while using a camera with a long-exposure setting can help capture colors not visible to the naked eye.
