Yelp has published their 2024 list of the ‘best 100 barbecue spots in America’ and three Colorado restaurants made the cut for inclusion.

While Texas, Kansas, and North Carolina tend to get some of the most attention when it comes to barbecue nationwide, Wright’s Barbecue in Arkansas snagged the top spot on the ranked list, with establishments in Arizona, Nevada, Montana, Florida, and Tennessee joining the ‘big three’ to round out the top 10.

As far as the Centennial State goes, ranking 29th on the Yelp list of the country’s 100 best barbecue spots – based on ratings, volume of reviews, and select keywords – was Denver’s Post Oak Barbecue, located on Tennyson Street. Holding a strong 4.4-star rating with 522 reviews on Yelp at time of publishing, patrons of Post Oak Barbecue rave about the beef ribs, the brisket sandwich, and the pulled pork.

The next ranking Colorado spot on the Yelp list of 100 places nationwide was Longmont’s Georgia Boys BBQ, ranking 87th. Georgia Boys BBQ has a rating of 4.3 stars with 782 reviews, with customer’s showing plenty of love for their burnt ends, sweet potato casserole, and hot links.

Not far behind Georgia Boys was Westminister’s GQue Championship BBQ, ranking 88th. Oddly enough, GQue did have the highest rating of the three spots on Yelp, also with the most reviews – 4.5 stars and 1,024 reviews. The barbecue sandwiches at GQue’s seem to be a favorite, along with the jalapeño cheddar sausage and dry rub chicken wings.

While Colorado might not be known around the globe for its excellent barbecue cuisine, there’s no shortage of great meat in the Centennial State – after all, it’s a spot long-known for its ranching community. Don’t be afraid to pop by and give your local barbecue spot a try – you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised.
