Truck swept off road by Valentine’s Day avalanche in Colorado
A truck was swept off Loveland Pass by an avalanche around 7:15 p.m. on Feb. 14.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) closed U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass on Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. due to adverse conditions and rising avalanche danger.
According to CAIC, CDOT was escorting the remaining vehicles off the pass when a natural avalanche occurred and swept the truck off the road. One person was in the truck but was not injured. Multiple agencies, including CDOT, CAIC, Clear Creek County Sheriff, Summit County Sheriff, Summit Rescue Group, and Alpine Rescue Team responded to the accident.
The CAIC said they will conduct a full investigation and issue a final report on the accident next week.
