All businesses along the road remain open to the public and traffic is being detoured at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Lafayette Road with alternate access to Canon Avenue near the main shopping district. The release stated that there is no estimated timeline to reopen the road.

Days of rainy conditions have forced crews to make emergency repairs to fix erosion under U.S. 24 near Cave of the Winds in Manitou Springs, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Erosion was evident Tuesday on the steep slope under the roadway, but by Wednesday CDOT crews had filled trouble spots with packed asphalt.

From Friday to Wednesday, Colorado Springs received 2.29 inches of rain at its official measuring station — the Colorado Springs Airport, according to the National Weather Service. The precipitation puts the month of August on track to exceed its average.

Some areas around Colorado Springs, including west of Interstate 25, have recorded higher unofficial rain totals during the past week.
