Shake Shack aims for November opening for Colorado Springs location

Shake Shack, the New York-based chain that’s popular for its made-to-order Angus beef hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and hand-spun milkshakes, has targeted Nov. 9 for the opening of its first Colorado Springs location, southwest of InterQuest Parkway and Federal Drive in the InterQuest Town Center development on the city’s north side.

The opening date appears as part of internet postings that list Shake Shack locations in Colorado.

A spokeswoman for the chain, who initially acknowledged the Nov. 9 opening, said the date has changed over the last few weeks, however, and could change again.

Another high-profile food and entertainment concept opens soon in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs restaurant will be the 10th in the state for Shake Shack, which has four locations in Denver — including Denver International Airport — and one each in Boulder, Castle Rock, Greenwood Village, Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree.

Shake Shack’s 3,200-square-foot Colorado Springs location, which the chain says will have the highest elevation in the country for any of its restaurants, will have a patio and a drive-thru, according to an August news release.

The location will carry Colorado-exclusive items, one of which will be the Green Chile CheddarShack — a cheeseburger with white cheddar, scallions and marinated green chiles, the news release said.

The first Shake Shack opened in 2004 in New York City’s Madison Square Park, according to the chain’s website. Shake Shack now has more than 480 global locations, including over 310 in 32 states and the District of Columbia and about 170 in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo and Seoul, the website says.

Shake Shack will become one of the latest regional and national restaurant and entertainment concepts to expand to Colorado Springs, joining the likes of In-N-Out Burger, Whataburger and Dave & Buster’s, which is scheduled to open Nov. 20 in the north-side Highlands at Briargate commercial center.
