Entering final year of his contract, Broncos DE Zach Allen seeks lucrative extension

Heading into the final year of his contract, Broncos defensive end Zach Allen is seeking a lucrative extension.

One source said Allen is seeking a deal in the neighborhood of $25 million per season. The player contract website Spotrac.com has projected his market value at an average of $22.1 million per season.

Allen, 27, signed a three-year $45.75 million contract with the Broncos as a free agent after playing his first four NFL seasons with Arizona. In 2025, the final year of that deal, he is on the books for a base salary of $12.74 million with a cap number of $19.795 million.

Last season Allen had 61 tackles, including 8 ½ sacks, while being named second-team All-Pro.

Dallas on Tuesday signed defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year, $80 million extension, making him the NFL’s 15th-highest paid interior defensive lineman, according to OvertheCap.com. Chris Jones of Kansas City, making an average of $31.75 million, and Christian Wilkins of Las Vegas, with an average of $27.5 million, are currently the only linemen on the list making more than $25 million per year. But that could change with free agency starting next week and the salary cap having gone up from $255.4 million to $279.2 million.

If Allen does not end up being extended, he would become an unrestricted free agent next March.

McMillian signs tender

Broncos cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian, who was given his exclusive rights free agent tender on Tuesday signed it Wednesday, his agent Deryk Gilmore told The Denver Gazette.

McMillian signed for $1.03 million for the 2025 season. He is due to become a restricted free agent next March unless his contract is extended before then.

McMillian signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and spent the season on the practice squad, getting into one game. He made the 53-man roster in 2023 and has been Denver’s primary nickel back since early that season.

Fraboni’s future

The Broncos are not planning to place a tender on long snapper Mitch Fraboni, who is in line to be their only restricted free agent.

The lowest tender amount for a restricted free agent is $3.263 million and Fraboni made $985,000 in 2024.

It remains to be seen if the Broncos will reach a deal on a contract extension for Fraboni at an amount less than the lowest tender. If no deal is reached by next Wednesday, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Sanders, Hunter visit Cleveland

Cleveland, which holds the No. 2 pick in the April 24-26 NFL draft, announced Wednesday that former University of Colorado stars Shedeur Sanders, a quarterback, and Travis Hunter, a cornerback-receiver, both came in for draft visits.

Also visiting was Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter. All three players are expected to go very high in the draft.

Manning dubbed ‘relatable’

Hirsch Leatherwood, a leading communications and market research firm, has unveiled its 2025 Celebrity Influence Index, and former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is rated highly.

In a survey of hundreds of Americans, Manning was ranked as the fourth-most relatable celebrity behind Zendaya, Dolly Parton and Snoop Dogg and was the highest-rated athlete. Manning concluded his Hall of Fame career with Denver from 2012-15.
