Josh Reynolds calls Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick a “baller.” He also calls receiver Marvin Mims Jr. a “baller.” He said quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham, Zach Wilson and Bo Nix have been “balling” in practice.

As for Reynolds, a receiver who signed with Denver as a free agent in March, head coach Sean Payton believes he also is a baller.

“It’s good,’’ Payton said after Thursday’s third practice of organized team activities at the Centura Health Training Center about how Reynolds has looked so far. “He’s long. He has strong hands. Another veteran receiver.”

Reynolds, entering his eighth NFL season, was Denver’s most decorated free agent signing, getting a two-year, $9 million contract. Reynolds, 29, caught 40 passes for 608 yards last season and five touchdowns for a Detroit team that made the NFC Championship Game.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes had talked at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando, Fla., in late March about wanting to re-sign Reynolds. But later that week he had a deal done with Denver.

“Business,’’ Reynolds said of not returning to the Lions. “It’s a business, but you know, I think I’m at where I’m supposed to be at, and I’m excited.”

Reynolds is now playing in Payton’s offense. It’s one he always has liked from when Payton coached New Orleans for 15 seasons through 2021 and then joined the Broncos last season after taking a year off.

“I think the main decision (in signing with Denver) was that I’ve always admired Sean Payton from afar,’’ he said. “I was excited to see what that offense looked like.”

It remains to be seen how the speedy 6-foot-3 Reynolds will fit in a receiving room that Payton said is “big across the board” and “has speed.” Reynolds could end up as the No. 2 receiver behind Courtland Sutton. However, there are questions about the future of Sutton, who has not attended voluntary spring drills and reportedly wants a contract reworked from one that has him making $13 million in 2024 with just $2 million guaranteed.

“Whatever Coach Payton has me doing, I’m all for it, man,’’ Reynolds said. “I’m here to help this team win.”

Also competing for playing time will be Patrick, who returns after missing the past two seasons due to injuries, Mims, a second-year man, and rookies Troy Franklin and Devaughn Vele. Reynolds said having a “vet presence” will help him in working with some of the younger receivers.

For now, Reynolds is still trying to find his own footing.

“I think trying to figure out the plays,’’ he said of adjustments he is making with his new team. “But at this point, I’ve been at a couple of teams, so a lot of it kind of carries over. Then I would say, the altitude. It’s been a little tough.”

Reynolds is with his fourth NFL team since being a fourth-round draft pick in 2017 by the Los Angeles Rams out of Texas A&M. He had a career-high 52 catches with the Rams in 2020 before playing briefly with Tennessee in 2021 and then joining the Lions later that season.

In 38 games with Detroit, Reynolds had 97 catches for 1,393 yards and 10 touchdowns. Former Lions All-Pro receiver Herman Moore liked what he saw.

“They’re going to be amazed at the player,’’ Moore told The Denver Gazette shortly after Reynolds signed with the Broncos. “He was really (the Lions’) big-play guy.”

In other words, Moore considers Reynolds to be a baller.
