Denver weather: Record setting heat for start of fall continues Wednesday

Continued warming Wednesday around Denver and the I-25 corridor is forecasted as the fall of record heat marches forward.

Denver residents can expect sunny skies, with a high near 76, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Light and variable winds will become southeast between 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.

“No hazardous weather is expected although a few wind gusts from 50 to 60 mph may occur late tonight over the higher terrain,” the NWS said.

Tonight it’ll be mostly clear, with a low around 47 and a south wind between 7 to 9 mph will blow.

Denver’s record setting hottest start to fall continues as the average temperature from Sept. 1 has now reached 66.9 degrees, according to Meteorologist Chris Bianchi with Denver Gazette news partner 9News.

The 66.9 degree mark is 7.4 degrees above average, which is a full 1 degree the previous record of 65.9 degrees set in 2015.

The rest of the week’s forecast has temperatures in the 70s through Saturday, with a potential 80 degree reading on Sunday.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 72. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 8 to 15 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 67. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.
