Denver weather: The heat returns Friday ahead of a fire watch over the weekend

The temperatures begin to climb again Friday after Thursday’s cold front passed through. Dry and breezy conditions remain heading into the weekend as well.

Today, Denver residents can expect sunny skies, with a high near 83, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Light and variable winds will become southwest 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

Tonight it will be clear, with a low around 56. South southwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 16 mph.

A fire weather watch goes into effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday for large portions of the Front Range mountains and foothills, northeastern and central Plains.

“Critical fire weather conditions will become more widespread on Saturday, as gusty winds combine with unseasonably warm and dry conditions,” the NWS said. “Avoid any burning or outdoor activity that could create a spark and start a fast moving wildfire. The strongest winds are expected to develop over the mountains and foothills north of I-70, spreading across the northern and eastern plains through the late morning and afternoon hours.”

Record or near record breaking warmth can also be expected, with highs reaching the mid to upper 80s across most of the plains.

Here’s the 4-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 86. South southwest wind 9 to 11 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 82.
